Instrumental Instruction

School Info / Events, Facilities & Opportunities / Instrumental Instruction

Instrumental instruction is available for Strings (violin, cello, etc.), Woodwind, Brass, Guitar and Percussion at the Academy. The Instrumental Instruction Service undertakes to provide a minimum of 32.5 hours of lessons over the school session (from the end of August until the end of June). The current charge is £31.50 per term with the school term comprising four terms.  There are limited places for new S1 starts as priority is given to Primary pupils, but when spaces occur in instructors timetables these can then be filled.

Some instruments may be hired at a cost. Application forms for the next school session are available from the School Office on request. New starts are usually processed in February and March but S1 pupils may be offered places until September.

A Pupil in years one and two, who is continuing instrumental instruction into a SQA certificated course in S3 and beyond, is allowed his/her instrumental instruction free of charge. Pupils in S4 and beyond may qualify for free tuition relating to SQA coursework. Discounted rates also apply in certain circumstances, details of which are available on request from the Education and Community Services Department.

It is worth noting that procedures for the running of the service are currently under review and that the arrangements outlined above may change.

Application information can be obtained from Ms S Berker, Teacher of Music, by contacting her at Langholm Academy.
