Music
Courses & Timelines
Courses
The music department has a flexible approach to courses presented from S3 to S6.
A
mixture of Standard Grade and Intermediate 2 courses are run in S3 and
S4, according to ability of pupils, with Intermediate 2 involving more
intensive coursework. Some pupils may even complete this two year
course in S3.
Music in S5/6 usually involves candidates being
presented at Intermediate 2 or Higher, but if there are comparatively
large numbers of pupils progressing as far as Advanced Higher then
Intermediate 2 level is dropped.
Most pupils enter enter S5/6
music classes having completed Standard Grade or Intermediate 2 in
S3/4; there is some scope for those coming back to music in S5/6 having
dropped the subject after S2 to complete performing units rather than
the entire course award.
Music courses for Higher run along two distinct routes:
- Music with Performing (Two instruments, Composing and Listening elements)
- Music with Technology (One instrument, Sound Engineering or Midi Sequencing, Composing and Listening elements)
At present the norm is the first route, but Sound Engineering units may be offered in S6 when timetabling allows.
