About Geography
Welcome to Geography at Langholm Academy!
Geography
is the study of the interaction between people and the planet. During
our study of Geography you will learn about how people in other parts
of the world live, and what makes our planet a unique and and exciting
place to live. You will also be encouraged to think about how and why
we need to look after our fragile Earth.
S1 and S2
We
will start by concentrating on the basic skills which will help in your
study of Geography, and which you will find useful for the rest of your
life. These are:
In 1st Year:
- Atlas Work
- Ordanance Survey Map Work.
- Weather
- Settlement and Farming
In 2nd Yea:
- Our Dynamic Earth
- Earthquakes
- Volcanoes
- The Work of Rivers, Seas and Glaciers
- The Empty Lands and the Crowded Lands
- Why Some Areas of the World are More Developed then Others
Intermediate Geography
In
3rd and 4th year, we study Intermediate Geography. This is a very
varied course, and basically it consists of three units. These are:
- Physical Environments
- Human Environments
- Environmental Interactions
Higher Geography
5th
and 6th year can choose to do Higher Geography, or Intermediate
Geography if they didn't do this in 3rd and 4th year. The Higher course
also consists of three units:
- Physical Environments
- Human Environments
- Environmental Interactions
These topics will be dealt with in more depth than at Intermediate level, and there will also be new topics.
