During the new academic year, commencing August 2007, all pupils in S6 and those in S4 and S5 who are planning to leave school in either December 2007 or May 2008 will be allocated a time to attend a short interview with their Careers Advisor. However, it is still the case that any pupil can request an interview during the year. The purpose of this consultation is to ensure that young people get the support they need to make and implement well informed career and learning decisions. We are asking for your support in enouraging your son/daughter to attend this interview. Research shows that you, the parent or guardian, are the most important influence on a young perosn's career aspirations and choices. Careers Advisors are available at Parents' Evenings and can be contacted directly at school if you have any concerns or questions. The reason for this change in working is that Scottish Executive Ministers have issued a statement on the future focus of Careers Scotland which included a guarantee that all pupils who intend to leave school at the end of the academic year 2007-08 will be given a career guidance consultation with a Careers Scotland Advisor. For some that may be a brief check to ensure they have plans in place and know how to access assistance should these plans change, whilst for others more intensive support can be offered.
