Careers Service in School

Langholm Academy's Careers Adviser is Lorraine McConway. Lorraine visits the school every second Thursday and is based within the PT's Base Room. Juliet works for Skills Development Scotland (SDS). SDS offers personalised and tailored support to individuals on-line, by telephone and face to face. Their services are offered to all S4, S5 and S6 pupils either within school or at the Careers Centre in Dumfries High Street (right across from Costa Coffee). There is a Careers Adviser in every Secondary School in Scotland who can offer support to school pupils. The support offered is explained below and this can be through face to face appointments, group work and also linking in with the school curriculum.

S4, S5 and S6 pupils may request an interview with Lorraine either by requesting an appointment through Mr McFadyen or the school office. Or you can call in to see Lorraine in the PT Base Room and an appointment can be arranged.

In August 2011 Skills Development Scotland launched MY World of Work, a new website which helps people to plan a career and build on it. You can get ideas of jobs you might want to do, whats involved in different jobs, write a CV and look for jobs and courses. You can use this alongside getting face to face help from your Careers Adviser. Visit http://www.myworldofwork.co.uk/ to view the site
